NIV Colossians 3.1
Verse Colossians 3.1
3 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Giovanna Hood opinion on Verse Colossians 3.3 Since, Then, You
This verse using the King James version says if you then be risen with Christ seek those things which are above where Christ sits
on the right hand of God.
From my own understanding this particular verse is calling on Christians to be heavenly minded. A lot of Christians In these times tend to be worldly minded, they want to drive the best cars, have the biggest houses and all that makes life comfortable.
I am not saying that we should not desire these things, I am saying they should not be given the center stage in our lives. Jesus should be the center stage of our lives but in Christendom today, the opposite is the reality. People tend to be more focused on making money than they are in following Jesus, they would rather drop Jesus than drop their comfortable lives.
It amazes me when Christians trying to copy the world follow the dictates of the world. The world now dictates how we dress , sing, act etc. It seems a lot of people in the church are no longer heavenly minded. They are more interested in what they see. The Bible says the things that are seen are temporary while the things that are not seen are permanent but because we are humans, the temporary tends to fill our mindset. We are more concerned about our career focus or marital dreams compared with our desires of making heaven.
A song writer once wrote give me Jesus and take the whole world and he is satisfied. How many of us Christian can sing this song with sincerity. In settings where religion is held in high esteem, a fellow becomes a Christian so that he can be prayed for so that his business will bloom or fight demons so that he can be healed or something that benefits him physically. I am not saying this is wrong but it should be balanced and not take the center focus of our lives as Christians.
Yes Jesus should make our lives easier and more peaceful and yet he should be our all in all. We should get to the point where we can say as Christians that even if we had nothing else as long as Christ lives in us, we will be content . I have learned that most of us new age Christians can not be compared with Christians in the Bible times, who were willing to give their all for their faith. People like Stephen who was martyred for Christ, people like Job who though lost all still took a stand in God. Paul who said to live is Christ and to die is gain. Time will not permit me to mention them all.
As my pastor will say it the same heaven that Paul or Peter is that we hope to go someday ? Looking at these ones even though they were not perfect but they were sold out for Christ and were more focused on things above. I believe we should pattern our lives after these Christians so that in the end we may not lose our reward
