The greatest gesture we can always use to symbolize and translate our love as Christians to others is by giving. Giving to the needy and to those who require our help at their most trying of times. As the adage goes “No man is an island”, no individual can survive by themselves. It is therefore your responsibility as a believer to ensure that those around you are in a better position in life. Luke 3:10-11"And the people asked him, saying, what shall we do then? He answered and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.”

One of the main reasons you should give out to the needy is to fulfill the will of the Father. Giving out to the needy is a way of gladdening God’s heart by doing according to His command. This is an act that is perceived as a show of love to the world and portrays oneness in Christ. Therefore, as a believer you should be ready to give from within your heart to fulfill God’s will and gladden Him as said in Matthew 5:42 “Give to everyone who asks you for something. Don’t turn anyone away who wants to borrow something from you.”

Besides that, a show of generosity is a sign of spiritual nourishment and growth. This is because spiritually grown people always have realize that there is need for giving out to the needy. Also, this provides nourishment to the spirit and a chance to become grow in the same aspect. Every chance you find to give is an opportunity to grow. It gives a sense of gratification and fulfillment to the spirit as you have gladdened God’s heart.

The other reason as a Christian you should give out is because you are just a custodian of the property you own. Custodianship changes with time, and so tomorrow it may drastically change from you to another person. God has given Christians a chance to become custodians of His property and therefore use them to your best and also use them to give out to the needy. This is a prudent way of using whatever you may have. It does not matter its quantity but how you use it matters a lot and it is what counts.

The reward of giving is a greater gift as you have gladdened God’s heart. God has greater gifts in store for you as you have taken part in His works. He has always cherished those who take part in His works and promises them a great reward. This is to encourage you to be a giver to the needy and those who truly require your help.

It is therefore a challenge to every Christian out there to become a giver and make a growth to the virtue of generosity. This is always a part of what really defines true Christianity and fulfillment of God’s teachings. It is what will help you grow as Christian and truly impact your relationship with God.
